Keeping your ProSeries Basic Edition tax products up-to-date

You can install new products and update previously-installed products via the Internet and from the ProSeries Basic Edition Archive CD, as explained in this section.

Software service and delivery information

ProSeries Basic Edition software is delivered on the two ProSeries Basic Edition CDs described in the table below.

Important:	Getting tax products and updates via the Internet helps you have the most up-to-date versions of the ProSeries Basic Edition tax products that you use.

For information on release dates and news specific to the products you ordered, use any of the following methods:

In the ProSeries Basic Edition program, click the Help button to open the Help Center, then select Release Dates in the ProSeries.com area.

In your Internet browser, go to http://www.proseries.com, then select Check Your Order Status in the My ProSeries area.

In your Internet browser, go to http://www.proseries.com/support/release_dates.aspx.

Step 1 - Get products and updates via the Internet

After you install ProSeries Basic Edition software from the ProSeries Basic Edition Tax Release 1 CD, use the Internet to get any newly-released products and product updates. As soon as a ProSeries Basic Edition tax product or tax product update becomes available, it is posted to the ProSeries Basic Edition Tax Products Internet server.

To get the latest product releases and product updates, use either of the following methods:

In HomeBase, go to the toolbar and click the Update button.

In HomeBase, go to the Help menu and select Update Installed Products/Download New Products.

You'll see the Connected Customer dialog box shown here.

Click the Choose Products to Install button if you want to review the state products that are selected or select additional state products.

Click Next when you're ready to continue.

You'll see the dialog box shown here while the ProSeries Basic Edition program checks for the product releases and product updates that you're interested in.

When the program finishes the update process, it will:

Inform you about the results of the update process, and

Indicate the steps that you can take to conclude the update process.

Important:	The ReadMe information for the initial release of a product identifies any forms that are not yet final and haven't been approved for filing.


Important:	If you print a form that can't be filed yet, the printed form includes a "DO NOT FILE" watermark. The ReadMe information for subsequent releases of that product identifies any forms that still aren't final and haven't been approved for filing.

For more information about keeping your ProSeries Basic Edition tax products up-to-date, use the Search Help feature on the Help toolbar. (For information about the Search Help feature, see "Getting information and help".)

Open a new or previously-saved return for that tax product.

Type keywords or a question in the Search Help field on the Help toolbar, then press ENTER or click the Search button.

Review the list of search results in the Help Center.

Click the blue, underlined title of a search result to see more information.

Step 2 - Get products and updates from the ProSeries Basic Edition Archive CD

The following procedure explains how to install ProSeries Basic Edition tax products and tax product updates from the ProSeries Basic Edition Archive CD that you receive in April.

Insert the ProSeries Basic Edition Archive CD into your CD drive.

Allow the installation program to install the appropriate ProSeries Basic Edition tax products and tax product updates from the CD.

If you want to review the products that are selected for installation or select additional products for installation, click the Select Additional Products button.

After you review the products or select additional products for installation, click OK.
